Things to know about therapy

"What you seek is seeking you" - Rumi

  1. Seeking therapy takes strength and courage rather than showing weakness‚Äč

  2. It is sometimes feels worse before it gets better

  3. Therapy is not only for people with mental illness. It is for anyone looking to understand their emotions, connect more deeply to themselves and build mental wellness, strength and resilience.

  4. Therapy takes commitment and dedication. It is a ritual, whereby you need to show up and do the work within AND outside of the therapy space.

  5. Therapy means dedicating time solely for your well-being, self-growth and development.

  6. Therapy can feel like a one-sided relationship (because it kind of is). It's the one relationship that you don't have to ask the other person how they're doing. This can be strange at first but liberating over time.

  7. You will not 'click' with every therapist. It is important that you have a good connection with your therapist and if you don't it's okay to look elsewhere.

  8. As a therapist, I come from a place of curiosity, wanting to learn about how you: see, feel and experience the world. I don't make assumptions about your experience but I ask you to share so that I can understand.
